About

The ORC Songwriter Challenge is a song contest that aims to encourage artists to write their best works while competing for prizes. The Ohio Recording Co. strives with this event to contribute to the songwriting community by providing opportunities to learn about the music business and work with real industry professionals.

Requirements

You won't need a polished recording or a produced video to enter the ORC Songwriter Challenge. Demos, work-tapes, cell phone recordings or cell phone videos are all acceptable forms of entry. Performance and production quality are not part of the judging criteria. Songs will be evaluated on originality, composition, melody and lyrics. Contestants may submit entries in the following genres: Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, Gospel, Electronic, Folk and Americana. Songs should not exceed 5 minutes. Entries must include a lyric sheet and an audio or video file of a performance of your original song.

Guest Judge - Austen Jux-Chandler

Austen Jux-Chandler earned a Grammy Award for his work on Adele’s seminal 25 record, and is continuing to add more and more names to an already impressive client list. Working as the Head Engineer at the famed Dean St. Studios between 2010-2016, Austen accrued a wealth of knowledge and experience, working alongside and learning from some the music industries most revered artists and producers. The last few years have been a whirlwind of some of the biggest names in the global and UK market, including Ed Sheeran, Florence and the Machine, Lady Gaga, Paul Weller, A$AP Rocky, Plan B, John Legend, The Weekend and most notably, Adele. http://www.austenjc.com

Paid gig offer by the Fremont Exchange Club to perform at Party In The Park in Fremont, Ohio (Up to a $1000 value). *Winner must agree to the terms set by Party At The Park.
Perform as the featured artist at the Ohio Recording Co. Songwriter Showcase and receive a produced video of 1 song. The performance video will also be featured on Buckeye Cable Arts Network show, Rise Up.
2 hour recording session with Austen Jux-Chandler at the Ohio Recording Co. on March 9th. *If the first place winner is not available for the recording session on March 9th, 2020 the winner chooses to forfeit this prize to the next runner-up.

Release and Waiver

In consideration for the opportunity to submit my Original Song and Entry Application to participate as an applicant in the ORC Songwriter Challenge contest and for other good and valuable consideration, I irrevocably give Ohio Recording Company and its agents and contractors the right and permission to use, copy, alter, distribute, publish, broadcast, and display the Song or Video that I have submitted; photographs and images of me that I have provided or that they will create; my voice and likeness; my name; the city, state, or province in which I live; and other information and material included in my Entry Application, on Ohio Recording Company’s website, elsewhere on the Internet, in advertising and promotional materials, and in any other medium or format for any purpose related to the ORC Songwriter Challenge contest. I acknowledge and agree that if am selected as a finalist for the ORC Songwriter Challenge contest, Ohio Recording Company may post the Song and my photo or the Video on the Internet and allow the public to vote and comment on the material and on whether I should be chosen as the winner of the ORC Songwriter Challenge contest. I waive any right to royalties or other payment for the use of my Song and photo or Video and I also waive the right to inspect or approve Ohio Recording Company’s use of the Song and photo or Video and other materials that Ohio Recording Company may use with them. I attest that there is no copyrighted material in my Song or Video. I release and waive and agree to hold Ohio Recording Company, its agents, and its contractors harmless from any claims, damages, or liabilities resulting from their use of the Song or Video and I agree not to bring any such claims against the released parties at any time in the future. This includes, but is not limited to, claims for violation of publicity rights and privacy rights, claims based on moral rights, claims for intrusion, claims for defamation, claims for fraud, claims for infliction of emotional distress, and claims for copyright or other intellectual property infringement, whether those claims may be based on statutes or the common law.

I represent and warrant to Ohio Recording Company that:

My entry Song or Video is my original work.
I have not granted anyone else any rights to use, distribute, publish, broadcast, or display the Song or Video.
I have the full right and authority to execute this Release and Waiver.
I have all rights necessary to grant the rights, waivers, and releases granted in this Release and Waiver.
I have read this Release and Waiver and I fully understand it.
All statements and information included in my Entry Application and any other statements and information that I provided to or will provide to Ohio Recording Co. are true and complete.
